Transport in Stochastic Media


The last several years have seen an increasing interest in the formulation of particle transport descriptions in stochastic mixtures, such as in Poisson tessellations, in which the properties of the background material are known only in a statistical sense. The primary goal is to find the ensemble average (expected value) of the particle intensity in phase space, and one of the current challenges is to find higher-order moments.

Applications for this kind of problem include astrophysics, nuclear medicine, reactor physics and criticality, and atmospheric sciences.
