I am Dr. Richard Vasques, an Assistant Professor in the Nuclear Engineering Graduate Program within the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at The Ohio State University (OSU). Since joining OSU in 2017, I have been dedicated to advancing research and education in nuclear science and engineering, in the area of reactor physics.
Prior to my tenure at OSU, I served as a Project Scientist at the University of California, Berkeley, focusing on computational neutronics. My international academic journey also includes roles as a Research Fellow at Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) in Brazil (Innovative Reactor Designs) and RWTH Aachen University in Germany (Computational Nuclear Engineering). Beyond academia, I held positions at Fundação Getúlio Vargas and McKinsey & Company, where I gained valuable insights into industry practices and strategic problem-solving.
I earned my Ph.D. in Applied & Interdisciplinary Mathematics from the University of Michigan, specializing in Nuclear Engineering. My M.S. and B.S. degrees in Applied Mathematics were awarded by UFRGS, where my academic foundations were shaped.
My academic genealogy includes ancestors such as Galileo, Newton, Stokes, Fourier, Lagrange, Poisson... I invite you to take a look and check out all the cool names. You can also find a little more about me in the following pieces:
